SUCCESS IS GENDERLESS

OMSMPC features GADmazing Seller Stories

Through the initiative of the Gender and Development (GAD) Committee, our cooperative proudly presents our three members with their GADmazing Seller Stories. This year, OMSMPC highlights the incredible journey of our members who come from different backgrounds but have proven one thing – that success is genderless. Be inspired by the stories of Mr. Abraham Canoy, Ms. Bernalin Sarcia, and Ms. Jocelyn Bansal.
Makina
MAKINA. Raised by a single parent, Mr. Abraham Canoy had to help his mother provide for their family at a young age. Their family's small business, which started with making and selling rags on an old rusty sewing machine, supported the needs of the family with five children.
Abraham learned about Lazada and became an official member of OMSMPC to pursue his online selling business. He admitted that everything was difficult at first, but his dream of making a better life for his mother kept him going. He wanted his mom to experience the other side of life – an easier and happier life.
SUPER MOM. Ms. Bernalin Sarcia faced one of the biggest hardships when she lost her husband a few years ago. It was made more difficult because she had to support their four children on her own. Despite previously working as a call center agent, her income could only cover so much of their family's needs.
When her husband was still with them, he encouraged her to open an online store on Lazada. She then became a COOP member and continued her RTW store online.
Super Mom
Bernalin is earning enough to support her children and their future. She admitted she is still in pain, but she knows her husband is proud of her for all she has done for their family.
Teacher
TEACHER. Teacher by day, seller by night. That is Ms. Jocelyn Bansal's typical day as a public-school teacher and an online business owner. It was a challenge when her husband got laid off due to the pandemic. Despite efforts, finding work was difficult. When they learned that her sister was planning to close her first Lazada store, Jocelyn took over. Together with her husband, they rebuilt the online store while she continued her teaching job.
Through OMSMPC’s membership and training, Jocelyn learned more about the platform and used it to grow their business. For Jocelyn, running an online business gave her a chance to earn, learn, and become more persistent and resourceful in life.
